Darren Waller Retire

Darren Waller Announces Retirement from New York Giants

After One Season with Team

8-Year NFL Career Comes to an End

Tight end Darren Waller has announced his retirement from the NFL after eight seasons, including one with the New York Giants. The announcement was made in an emotional 18-minute video on YouTube.

Waller, who spent his first seven seasons with the Las Vegas Raiders, said he made the decision after months of contemplation. He cited a desire to focus on his mental and physical health.

"I've always been grateful for the opportunity to play this game," Waller said in the video. "But I've also realized that it's time for me to step away and focus on what's most important to me — my family, my health, and my well-being."

The Giants signed Waller to a one-year contract in March 2022, hoping he would provide a boost to their passing attack. However, Waller struggled to produce in New York, catching just 22 passes for 208 yards and two touchdowns in 11 games.

Despite his struggles on the field, Waller will be remembered for his time with the Raiders. He was named to two Pro Bowls and was a key part of Las Vegas' offense during his seven seasons with the team.

Waller's retirement is a significant loss for the Giants, who are looking to improve their offense in 2023. The team will now likely turn to Daniel Bellinger and Chris Myarick to fill the void at tight end.
